Can mastering the art of sailing be made more accessible?
Sailing is a huge growth industry in all the major developed markets - the Olympic sailing event offers ten medals, the America’s Cup (the oldest active trophy in international sport dating from 1848) attracted worldwide media coverage and is projected to attract over 1 million spectators to Valencia for the 2009 renewal and Cowes Week hosts over 1,000 competing yachts for the world's oldest sailing regatta each August.
Beyond those fortunate enough to be directly involved the exploits of Ellen Macarthur (amongst others) has shown sailing to encapsulate the spirit of adventure of a bygone age putting the sport firmly at the forefront of the national consciousness.
Despite this growing profile the art of sailing remains frustratingly out of reach for all those who would like to get into the sport and the many enthusiastic amateur sailors that don't have the time to take lengthy
courses. However, by utilising technology this knowledge base can be opened up to create an on-line business focused on this lucrative global market.
